Hmm. Very confused as to how that seam got there at the top of my slice. To make super-sure, after I was all done I pasted the original sliver I was given back over everything. Maybe it has something to do with my ancient version of Photoshop...? Does it make a difference whether I work in RGB or CMYK? Any advice appreciated.

I think it's an issue with RGB vs CMYK as you surmised steve. I had the same problem once upon a time. Now I just stick with RGB and things seem to match much better.
