There was some confusion with the posting of this one. This is largely due to my posting it from Las Vegas and being thereby distracted.
Don't worry. I'm not here blowing all my Lung Fund money on blackjack.
I'm blowing it on craps.
Kidding! Geez.
Phineas at March 24, 2007 6:08 PM
I don't like to comment if it is something negative, but this is my top panel I worked hours on this and really couldn't wait to see who did what with it
Skywookie, you are really a very fresh prince.
You may have tried a little of the left, but the other side is the first time I've had someone totally ignore (in every way) my contribution.
Hey. I'm taking my panel home and finishing it myself. The other players did a nice job of continuing SkyWookies panel, I especially like the skulls and silhouette.
I still makes me sad to even look at it. sigh.
Taj at March 25, 2007 4:37 AM
Is it SARAMON from "Lord Of the Rings" in the first slice?
neta at March 25, 2007 4:01 PM
Nice opening slice Taj. I'd be pissed off too.
kookyknut at March 25, 2007 6:38 PM
It's not a true FP. Maybe it could be argued that it's half a FP, but the way it's done the right side could be interpreted as a kind of wall the Shroom Conjurer is standing behind.
Jim at March 25, 2007 6:45 PM
This is no FP, and I'm honestly surprised by your vitriol, Taj. SkyWookiee clearly continued your panel on the left side. On the right, s/he wanted to introduce an idea of his/her own, and I really don't see a problem with that. Isn't that what we all aim to do, with every slice? Allow the previous slice to inspire us, while throwing something new into the mix? SkyWookiee took the right approach. Maybe the whole stark-lack-of-blending thing should be gently discouraged. But I don't see any malicious intent in SkyWookie's slice. I think it's going a little far to blast his/her contribution as being downright disrespectful to yours, and it's certainly going too far to drop the FP on it.
I would say it's important we don't let an understandable disappointment with outcome become twisted into an undeserved disappointment with artistic integrity. We Corpsers introduce random, funky elements in our slices all the time. SkyWookie decided to introduce his/her idea right off the bat, in a way that didn't utilize everything you offered to him/her, but s/he is undeserving of your disdain.
These days, we're seeing a lot of Corpsers quick to allow indignation to become arrogance. It's a trend that bothers me much more than any blending issues ever could. Once upon a time, a Corpse like this one fostered some very useful discussion. Once upon a time, we offered suggestions for how to grow as Corpsers. Now we have so much contempt for each other, we just take our panels home and finish them ourselves.
Freddy at March 26, 2007 8:06 PM
Freddy: Are you by chance a reanimated corpser in disguise? You're rather enlightened for having contributed to only six corpses.
...Freddy is good. Freddy is wise...
Miroje at March 26, 2007 8:59 PM
Dear Freddy
you wrote in your reply to my words:
"but s/he is undeserving of your disdain.
These days, we're seeing a lot of Corpsers quick to allow indignation to become arrogance. "
-------
Well,Freddy, I think you are the pot calling the kettle black here! How can I grow as an artist and corpser if I'm not honest. When I called s/he a 'very fresh prince' I was taking all this in a light-hearted way, dude. AND CERTAINLY NOT because of your comments, but after I wrote it I went and really played around with it. I had fun, and it looked pretty good, but when I shrunk them down, itty bitty, side by side, the original SkyWookiee panel created formed a much more interesting pattern. It is graphically (from afar) two 'L's reversed and fitted together and with the black silhouette in the middle, It really was a pleasing piece of art.
I signed on to tell this very thing to Skywookiee, that I jumped to conclusions and I did see it as a wall later on. I just can't imagine why you are so defensive? who be you?????
I have no disdain for any artist. I welcome the sentiments of other artists here. But give ME a break, dude/tte. Are you and S/kywookiee going s/teady?
or do you just feel like playing 'criticize someone for criticizing someone'?? Let's hear from S/he who made it.
you also wrote:
"Now we have so much contempt for each other, we just take our panels home and finish them ourselves."
Well, I don't even have contempt for you, truly. Jeez. Why do you have such contempt for me because you think I have so much contempt for other/s?
nuh-uh.
I don't just take it home and finish THEM. If I came off arrogant, excuse me, sincerely. But I love getting slices, I love doing this, and I've learned so much. I've also learned sometimes we have to be big boys and girls and hear something that might ruffle our feathers. The 1/2Prince ruffled mine, and me telling it ruffled yours.
I learn from my many mistakes, man, so let me, huh?
PEACE ALOHA and purdy please, let's allow freedom of opinion be part of it here, too.
Taj at March 27, 2007 9:58 AM
Yes, Taj, you absolutely come off as arrogant. You can excuse yourself all you want, but when you don't make any effort to show respect, then what's the difference? You quickly asserted that you have no disdain for me. But you chose, in the same breath, to mock me with this "you and S/kywookiee going s/teady" nonsense. In fact, you chose to deride me throughout your entire response, just as you derided SkyWookiee originally. Actions speak louder than words, my friend, and your implicit haughtiness speaks louder than any affected apologies or claims to modesty. That, in a nutshell, is why you ruffle my feathers.
But I can see you're not even reading what I have to say to you (or maybe you're just unfamiliar with the definitions of "defensive" or "contempt"). So, good luck with your next Corpse.
By the way, Miroje, I'm as much an amateur as my record shows. Thank you, though. I'm blushing.
Freddy at March 27, 2007 6:30 PM
hmmmm, Seems we would have heard from Skywookiee by now. Are you sure you're not Skywookie, my f/riend? (I couldn't resist the /, my pompous friend)
Why must you take this so seriously? Lighten up. Take all this time you're spending stressing yourself out over this tempest in a tea pot,you could be doing ART and maybe your corpse 7 won't be as amateurish as your record shows.
Taj at March 28, 2007 4:18 AM
No, I'm not Freddy, and we're not in a relationship. I'd reply earlier, but I've got a computer problem. You're all entitled to your own opinion, do as you wish. I made my slice, and it's over with.
SkyWookiee at March 28, 2007 5:17 AM
I did a corpse or two in the distant past and was thinking about wanting to play again... But after reading Taj's comments to SkyWookiee, I'm thinking a second time about it.
Taj, I'm not sure of your intent when you posted. I can't be. And it's always dangerous to read tone into messages. That said, your original (and subsequent posts) did come off as judgmental, discouraging, and a bit bratty. Of course, you could have meant all of those things tongue-in-cheek ("I'm taking my panel home and finishing it myself" and "I still makes me sad to even look at it. sigh.") but there is nothing there to indicate that you meant it in any way other than with the fullness of your disappointment punctuating the sentences.
As a "fresh prince" it would be discouraging to me to work hard on creating a panel and have a corpsemate rip me that way.
It was good to see SkyWookiee post that he had moved on though.
PilerOn at March 29, 2007 7:36 AM
Yes, some times Taj can be a jerk, but he did apologize, and said he learned from it. I don't care who is who or what they think of my panels, but he does. I've seen much heavier remarks about each others work on this site and other art sites.
I know Taj from other sites and we're going to meet this summer. He is a big, goofy, kind-hearted person. Class clown. We love him. You misread him, Freddy, right from the beginning. It seemed to me that YOU are picking on him, and I can't understand why someone would be so indignant? You'd like him in person, I bet.
SkyWookiee made the most sense of all of you. And one more thing....
Pilor on, You said:
".But after reading Taj's comments to SkyWookiee, I'm thinking a second time about it..."
What is your intent? Do you really have to think again about rejoining because someone made a remark and a reply about someone else's panel? I'd say don't blame Taj as a reason not to rejoin. Blame yourself, because you'll be missing a lot of great artists and art even when they do get cranky(Taj), or demand respect (Freddy)!
If we all quit for fear of being criticized who'd be left? If we just have only bland, token comments on each others work, especially when it involves those who worked on it, what is the point? I don't take it so personally because every artist here can teach us, too. If those of us here who get a negative opinion from another artist up and quits, they'd be very few left.

I like this corpse. The last two panels were kinda lost in this Taj - Freddy thing, but panel 3 and 4 are done so well and really mesh. I like Skywookies panel, especially the scroll and it blends beautifully Jcw as does 3 into 4, Neta. Love the soda cans too.
but...
I was also wondering why Pile 0n and Freddy made so much out of it. Why did Freddy allow himself to vent negatively at Taj by perpetuating it in the first place? Taj had a right to his opinion but perhaps he should use more sensitivity next time.
Now he must know some people even those not even in EC, or worked on a corpse have much of a sense, of humor along with some pretty thin skin. ouch.
I think Taj is funny, and I do love his mushroom wizard. We roll the dice and get what we get. Freddy, if you want respect, earn it. I don't think YOU read his reply to your comments where he admitted he saw it from a different perspective. He did get wise ass on you but you're not his teacher! IMHO only Phineus has the right to chastise the one who posted for insensitive comments.
Please artists out there, say how you like or dislike it, don't be afraid of censorship of any sort. BUT use tact, okay? We all get our buttons pushed. It can hurt.
Play nice kids.
Dor at March 29, 2007 12:21 PM
wow that is a sweet corpse ^^ taj your opening is fantasic! its rather a shame that the beautiful elements you created got both thrown into a blender and hidden behind a wall... reading thru all the comments makes me laugh a bit... art is about passion... about feeling... about expression... and if you don't get rathter heated about what you've created at times or understand why another artist would then well... that's too bad for you ^^
