It looks to me like the reflections on the waves in the "water" in the 2nd slice turn into "clouds" in the 3rd slice. I love that effect. Fantastic! Phantasmic! The only thing better would be to see clouds turning back into waves, producing an ambiguous horizon.

Might just be my mood today, but this one speaks of loss and makes me sad.

This is great! I especially like the first two panels. That cutout lady is awesome, and her reflection in the water is amazingly realistic, considering zoooom had no idea what was above those 15px.
I'm not sure I understand the couplet at the bottom, but it (and the paperclipped photo) seem to refer to the woman at the top. The whole thing feels like an illustration for a tale by Poe.

Creepy and sad... but I like it.

I think this one absolutely beautiful! "The shape of their goneness" -- that's be the sihouettes at the top! There's a definate plant theme with flowers, a tree, and flowers again. The use of church and state implies seperation, just as the two characters (one male, on female) are seperated not only spacially in the piece with one in the lower left and the other in the lower right, but temporally -- one is in a modern photograph and the other is obviously from the 1800's. Yes, this is a piece about loss.

Love the water effect! Very dreamy.

I especially love Zooom's watery slice.
I don't think my slice really fits very well but it was my first ever and I promise the next one will be better.
The strip I got was very dark brown and sombre, and I was already feeling a bit miserable when it arrived - and I guess that shows!
The quote:
"and the rest of our lives will the moments accrue, when the shape of their goneness will flare up anew".
is from a song called 'This side of the blue' by Joanna Newsom.
I'm not sure exactly what it means but it makes me think about that feeling when you suddenly get reminded of someone who's no longer around, thinking 'Oh, they would have really liked this' or 'they were still here last time we did this'...
But I agree that the shape of someone's goneness would definately be a black silhouette!

This is incredible... excellent start Damselfly, and excellent work by everyone else too.

I love the way that monument /gravestone/church spire turns into a flower in Kessie's slice. What an evocative corpse. Well done, all!

Hi Barowles, yeah I think Joanna Newsom is awesome.
If anyone haven't heard of her, she's a young American girl who plays the harp and does this weird but really addictive sort of poetic folk music....
You can listen to clips of her songs here:
