Gorgeous!

murfinator at May 22, 2006 8:37 AM

How... nice! Really, very pretty, very well done. Great job keeping the colors coherent and I like the Gaugin-check.

Jim at May 22, 2006 8:44 AM

Wow, beautiful. I love the colours and the way they continue through all 4 panels.

mjhoward at May 22, 2006 9:17 AM

I was going to wait with commenting until the first corpse I worked on was going to be posted but this is just too great not to comment on.. It's wonderfull

I.c.e Motion at May 22, 2006 9:26 AM

Fantastic. Great work everyone!

doctormatt at May 22, 2006 9:50 AM

First off, Maria, Damselfly, and Quackling, your panels are beautiful and I love them.

And then there's my panel.

I looked at the slice I got and decided the blue blobs looked a bit like grubs. I took that and ran with it. I decided to do something disturbing. In a lot of corpses, that could be the perfect ending. In this case, though, after three beautiful, serene, innocent, painterly panels full of Gaugin women and flowers, my panel is just... I feel like I've, I don't know, bitch-slapped the Dalai Lama.

So, am I the only one who feels this way about my panel? Is the creepy-crawlyness of Chtulu's meal so well camoflagued by the soft flowing beauty above that it just reads as a typical Tahitian repast?

dagfooyo at May 22, 2006 10:08 AM

aww, don't worry, dagfooyo, I am a vegetarian and therefore would not want to eat your gorgeous blue octopi etc. - but I certainly didn't think it spoilt the corpse or detracted from the 'theme' - I really did just think that it was the kind of oceanic feast that you'd expect on a tropical island.
It's a great corpse, and I especially like the way your part is in the foreground.

Kessie at May 22, 2006 10:50 AM

Well - that was my first one - and I am well chuffed!

dagfooyo - I think your bit fits in wonderfully, the flowers melt into the octopus and grubs just like they would melt in your mouth. Although - personally I wouldn't eat the grubs, the octopus looks yummy! :P

Damselfly - I'm sorry I made your beutiful women into monsters!

And Maria P - what a wonderful start.

Quackling at May 22, 2006 11:08 AM

dagfooyo - The grubs were tempting, until I noticed one has a human face. It's my policy not to consume any grubs with a human face. That's just me.

Is there any meaning to the face?

Ctrl-Alt-Delvis at May 22, 2006 11:23 AM

All right. I'll file that under "well-camoflagued" then. ^_^

dagfooyo at May 22, 2006 11:25 AM

heh... so I write that just as Ctrl+Alt posts... I was wondering when someone would notice the face. No meaning particularly, just going for disturbing like I said. If you look really closely, you can see it has a belly button.

dagfooyo at May 22, 2006 11:29 AM

And Quackling, I think the nose-shouldered woman is awesome!

dagfooyo at May 22, 2006 11:34 AM

This turned out beautifully! I got the Gaugin feel from the dark hair and colors from the first panel and stole from him (Gaugin). I like the seafood dinner - it looks like a Tahitian feast. Perfect.

Quackling - your panel blends in great. No apologies needed.

damselfly at May 22, 2006 11:42 AM

We are back on track with this one, folks! Mmmm...dreaming of paradise with an exotic feast of grubs and octopi! Wake up and smell the sushi!

The long, dual-purpose tresses make for great continuity.

FogBaron at May 22, 2006 12:41 PM

Amazing corpse, Maria P, damselfly, Quackling, and dagfooyo! I am really delighted to see this game produce exquisite artwork resulting from the hard work of four talented and diligent players as demonstrated here.

The colors and texture are carried through the whole corpse astonishingly well. Way to go!

And, of course, welcome Quackling. Nice premiere!

jakedrews at May 22, 2006 1:26 PM

I love the color scheme in this one. And no, I don't have any problem with the bottom panel....it's nice to be surprised!

Carrie at May 22, 2006 2:11 PM

This has been such a nice welcome! I was scared it was going to be a shambles, that I would match it the wrong way up or something, and everyone would be going, "Such nice pieces everyone, apart from that Quackling - who does she think she is!?"

It's nice to be in a really good quality one too.

Quackling at May 22, 2006 2:34 PM

WOW!!! this is wonderful! I was a bit worried my slice was too much of a self-contained picture in itself (it's my first corpse start)...but the aloe vera dangly bits did their thing and damselfly ran with them beautifully, and all the rest of the clues... I am so grateful to see this. Quackling, how's that for ESP? the Gauguin women fit perfectly, amazing. And the bottom panel is the twist in the story, that prevents it from being bland... it's the dark underside of paradise..or maybe the travellers nightmare (what exactly are we eating now?)... I am so HAPPY.

Maria P at May 22, 2006 4:02 PM

Words cannot describe how much I love this corpse!

Crucibelle at May 22, 2006 4:15 PM

Oops I just realized the Gauguin women belong to damselfly - sorry I was just so eager to comment I got it wrong. Anyway, I love the face coming off the women, the flowers and the way the hair continues. I could go on but I'll go away now. :))

Maria P at May 22, 2006 4:19 PM

What a beautiful, bizarre piece of art. It's stunning. It's complex. Those transitions could not have been easy and yet it's completely seamless. Probably one of my top favorite corpses so far.

velocity girl at May 22, 2006 9:06 PM

This is absolutely stunning!

Wild........ at May 22, 2006 9:12 PM

Superb!
Visual feat, all panels are great!
Amazingly coherent colours and feel, too...
I can feel the salty warm breeze.

AndyFromJava at May 22, 2006 9:25 PM

'Allo Vera- is that said in a cockney accent? By a cockney with soft, moisturised skin? :)

AndyFromJava at May 22, 2006 9:27 PM

Great stuff! lovely colour and themes continued through. Always felt a bit uneasy about Gaugin's work. i mean, its lovely, but if he was alive today we'd all call him a peadophile sex tourist...

slinkachu at May 23, 2006 6:36 AM

Is a peadophile someone who molests small green vegetables?

FogBaron at May 23, 2006 5:37 PM

An Exquisite Corpse is a collaborative experiment in the creation of visual art through the tapping of the collective unconscious...
