Can't have a new year without a new Corpse.

The above was actually used as a defence by famous serial killer Fred McStupid, who was imprisoned for ten brutal murders taking place over the course of a decade.

Wow. (thanks Shae!)

I'm speechless.

So...how does this happen? To be specific:

1. How does the grey color end up not matching up between sections 2 and 3? Did Spud Boy! have the colors matched up, and then lighten his whole piece, and not notice the mismatch? How could he not notice it, unless maybe the lightening happened after the original strip was removed?Maybe Spud Boy! could tell us what happened.

2. The seam from 3 to 4 makes me wonder if michelou did this really fast, or without zooming in very far. I spend a long time on my pieces, at least several hours, and I spend a lot of time zoomed in as far as I can, with pixels the size of toasters, and my seams still aren't great, but...

I often wonder if new folks realize the detail of the work required to make good seams. (Or maybe it's not, but I don't know any other way to do it, besides the yucky (though occasionally necessary) copy and flip method).

It would be great if we could have a kind of "do/not do" page with specifics to help people not make these kind of errors. The troubles in this corpse seem pretty common. Maybe a tutorial, with screenshots of a corpse piece being created would be useful...

Oddly, the background in slice 4 looks closer to that of slice 2 than does that of slice 3. It doesn't sure all the ills of this corpse, but taking slice 3 down a little in brightness helps a little.

Honestly I have no idea what happened. I used the eye dropper in photoshop and the grey matched perfectly to the sliver so, hell if I know what happened. It's unfortunate because the seem looked really good on my computer before I sent it in. Look at my other corpses, my seems are usually pretty ok. I don't know what michelou's deal is though...

Spud Boy! at January 3, 2006 12:04 PM

Since the background color of 4 matches that of 2, it does almost suggest that Spud's piece went wrong *after* it was submitted.

Michelou? Did Spud's 15 pixels look darker when you received it?

Shae at January 3, 2006 2:35 PM

For what it's worth, I remember a color-shift/lightening problem in a corpse I participated in months ago. The colors in the slice I got compared with what ended up in the final piece were definitely shifted (although the colors in my section stayed the same). Maybe it just happens sometimes.

Could the difference be due to the color space you're working in - CMYK, RGB, Indexed, etc.?

Jim at January 4, 2006 10:44 AM

Do folks normally change the color space they are working in? I just open the strip that's given to me, and work in whatever space that is (RGB).
