Well if that didn't just turn out like shit.
cloud_eyora at November 20, 2005 9:01 AM
Your piece or the whole, Cloud?
I think it works, and your words fit nicely moving into Sedition.
And anything orange is a good thing. :)
Miroje at November 20, 2005 11:33 AM
yeah. it kinda did. new people, a bit of constructive criticism: the point here is to gracefully continue, in any of a variety of possible ways (colors, lines, themes,etc...) the slice you're given, preferably without a seam; and if you're passing one on, leaving things open-ended for the next person to continue. pieces shouldn't be pre-fabricated and then slapped onto whatever slice you get, that's called "will smithing",and it's not nice.

i like the fact that the top one is titled "monkeys" and the bottom one has one. none of these are bad. you shouldn't even think your part is. you don't know what it's going to look like, so how can you judge? they're collaborative efforts, and in creating a joint picture with no idea what the previous or next will look like, it's pot luck (i didn't intend to use 'joint' and 'pot luck' in the same sentence, but... what can you do?). i think every one is fantastic. some have more continuity than others, but they all say something about each artist involved, and when combined, say a lot about every artist involved.
greta at November 20, 2005 11:57 AM
I sympathize, cloud.

greta, i'm not knocking anyone's ability to express themselves here. you're right, each piece is special in it's own way, and the world is beautiful (despite this piece not having any butterflies in it)and maybe this piece as a whole does even have a certain je ne se qua, but... it's not a particularly good corpse, as corpses go, and cloud is rightfully disappointed.
that being said, there's a learning curve here and we all know that, and as long as people put their lessons learned to good use on the next slice, they'll keep improving and so will the corpses. :)

I guess I just don't like being "smithed."
*pout*
I guess I was expecting to see more black through out and was a bit disappointed. Oh, well.
cloud_eyora at November 20, 2005 3:50 PM
And I was a bit crabby this morning. Sorry guys!
cloud_eyora at November 20, 2005 4:04 PM
For the record, I'm no newbie. I was just experimenting. Trying something new. It didn't work. Next time I'll try something else.
"Attention Visitors: Do Not Feed The Critic."
Indeed!
ZachsMind at November 20, 2005 7:33 PM
Who knows, maybe some people's French will improve too.

"for the record, I'm no newbie. I was just experimenting. Trying something new. It didn't work. Next time I'll try something else."
I think mine and your's worked ok together.
I don't like to point fingers, but textures are hard to work with and I wish people would pass more on than that, no offence to Greta intended. Keep them to a minimum, you know?
cloud_eyora at November 20, 2005 9:12 PM
Wait. Is it "Will Smithed"? or "Fresh Princed"?
FogBaron at November 20, 2005 10:13 PM
"Wait. Is it "Will Smithed"? or "Fresh Princed"?"
Is there a difference?
cloud_eyora at November 20, 2005 11:47 PM
Zachsmind, i hope you know i wasn't talking about your piece here at all... i thought it worked quite nicely, actually.
unfortunately, i'm really not sorry for being one of the few people around here who calls them as i see them. as i've said before, some of us put a lot of time and effort and care into the slices we work on, and it sucks to wait a month to see things turn out badly. if we all just say how wonderful things are and refrain from constructive criticism - which is the only kind i dispense - then how will people improve? just trying to help.
*sigh*
(and if there's any doubt in the power of criticism, i now know how to correctly spell "je nais se qua". :) )
unapologetic at November 21, 2005 1:26 AM
Guess the power of criticism failed here - it's:
Je ne sais quoi.
Jim at November 21, 2005 7:58 AM
No no, it's "Ich bin ein jelly donut".
Daniel at November 21, 2005 8:47 AM
argh. whatever. :(
unapologetic at November 21, 2005 9:01 AM
"i'm really not sorry" says UNAPOLOGETIC.
Heh heh. funny.

Daniel - You just about made me blow orange juice out my nose.
(Note to self: Do not read comments while eating lunch.)
Poncho Man at November 21, 2005 2:17 PM
"...Daniel - You just about made me blow orange juice out my nose."
I'd like to see that in a corpse.
FogBaron at November 21, 2005 7:08 PM
anything orange out one's nose would be fun, corpse or not! it's the green stuff that bothers me...
as far as textures go... i'm still working on getting these things down to a gentle roar. i think i get excited seeing them waiting for me, and since i only get to work on them during my lunch hour (note to self: don't drink orange juice at lunch), i have tended to put too much into them. however, i do like the swirly thingies.
and those are my eyes, so i'm watching all of you! every time you look at this corpse, i see you!
so there....
:P
