It's a shame the simplicity of this one got lost.

CerysCrow at October 6, 2005 6:21 AM

It does seem separated into three pieces, but the color palette pretty much held, and the star reference continued, albeit from five-pointed to six. In other words it's still pretty cool.

I don't think anything "got lost". Consistency is a quality that's interesting when it happens, and interesting when it doesn't. One of the reasons this exercise was created was to overcome consistency and logic, and revel in the juxtaposition of incongruous elements. That would include not only subject matter but also design considerations, such as simplicity vs. complexity. I don't think "it's a shame" is a fair term to use for any corpse. The goal is not for the corpse to look like one person created it. If anything, it's the exact opposite.

Yeah, what Wally said.

doctormatt at October 6, 2005 10:28 AM

I'll third that. Besides, it's got a bird theme virtually throughout.

FogBaron at October 6, 2005 3:44 PM

i do apologize if i let down corpse gods. but i have a very good time looking at these and doing this, even though im the first to admit my photoshop skills are limited. but i promise im on the up and up, with room only for improvement. i love looking at the work of the graphical badasses that are so often at play on this site

emjo at October 6, 2005 4:48 PM

i think it's beautiful. a lot of spiritual symbolism. and the themes carry through from slice to slice in a very interesting way. i like it a lot!

cheers all

The stars and birds in the first three panels are remarkable.

I agree that simplicity throughout would be very powerful, but it's pretty cool the way it is and I appreciate someone making a corpse work with limited photoshop skills.

Christy at October 6, 2005 5:54 PM

The more I think about it, the more I agree with what Wally said (and I had some trouble with what he said at first).

Jim at October 6, 2005 7:57 PM

I do agree with Wally, I'm just a little disappointed with this corpse.

I am pleased that the stars and birds were carried throughout, however.

Emjo, you didn't let ANYONE down. Besides, we all started with limited Photoshop skills at some point!

CerysCrow at October 7, 2005 6:01 AM

oh just you wait. im making a corpse head right now thats going to knock your ever lovin socks off.

emjo at October 7, 2005 11:20 AM

I actually prefer the bottom half of this corpse. I have to disagree and think the upper half is the lost half. Sure it's fluid from 1 to 2, but 3 and 4 are what draw my eye and keep it there.

I think this is an appropriate time to say that I like busy corpses ... although I wouldn't say this is all that busy. Perhaps the most beautiful corpses are the simple ones, but I think there is a place for corpses that are packed with stuff - sometimes it really works. By complaining about busy-ness I suspect we are reducing the range of styles that makes this site what it is.

An Exquisite Corpse is a collaborative experiment in the creation of visual art through the tapping of the collective unconscious...
