Wow layers and layers of subtext. Nice
bily redbeaver at April 25, 2005 6:43 AM
really rather amazing how some corpses succeed by blending seamlessly and others succeed despite being four very separate slices which are just extremely well thematically connected - like this one. very nice.

the first 2 slices are nicely themed, although hasfurrychildren was probably helped on this by the 'native american' text at the foot of slice 1! overall nice, like the repetition in slices 3 & 4
duncan at April 25, 2005 10:59 AM
yes, duncan. hasfurrychildren definitely ran with the native american text at the bottom of slice 1, although she could not conjure up a more creative means to make the slice flow better from the first slice. :(
hasfurrychildren was pleasantly surprised to see the money theme in slice 1. she is glad to see the flag pulled through to slice 3, but had hoped to see something regarding the playing cards hint... oh well.
Eric, what does the green frette frukur-ish text over the gnomes say/mean?
hasfurrychildren at April 25, 2005 11:32 AM
it's german and means "the dancing demons", I believe? correct me if I'm wrong.
nice corpse, children.
me at April 25, 2005 12:33 PM
also, may I add, a superb title.
me at April 25, 2005 12:34 PM
Huh, I was kind of wondering how melting the text into a pool of blood would translate into the next slice... after I sent it in, I thought it was about as subtle as a sledge-hammer but it was too late to change. I am amused that hasfurrychildren has the warrior aiming his peace pipe so it picks up the circle of AIM's logo.
Hasfurrychildren, the only money is the nickel, the engraving is actually from a scanned Death Certificate, everytime I use it, it's interpreted as money -funny! You must have picked the money theme up from the ether, ha!
cristine at April 25, 2005 2:18 PM
This came out a lot better than I expected. After I uploaded it I immediately wished I hadn't used the geometric thing in the background, but I think it looks OK now that I see the whole thing. And yes, "die tanzenden Dämonen" means "the dancing demons".
Eric at April 25, 2005 2:24 PM
i think the reason that that death certificate smacks of cash isn't something in the ether, but rather the appearance of that particular image of one andrew jackson in that little roundel, which also appears on the two latest versions of the $20 bill.

Have there been any other examples of corpses which made the same political statement in more than one segment?
Patrick Beverley at April 25, 2005 3:48 PM
To me, this whole corpse is political.
Patrick Beverley at April 25, 2005 3:49 PM
I see a corporate political statement being made here. The correlation between Native Americans and Bill Gates is a bit of a stretch, but it's there. Capitalism is at times a bit of a parade, wonderful things can come from it (like winning the space race to the moon), and it certaintly has its positive qualities, but at other times it can also suck.
ZachsMind at April 25, 2005 4:18 PM
interesting, genocide and not capitalism was on my mind; so ending with B.Gates is even more fascinating
cristine at April 25, 2005 4:47 PM
I dunno; what Microsoft has done to the rest of the computer market is fairly techno-genocidal.
That box in #3 was driving me insane. I was sure it was a fish stick.
Newt at April 25, 2005 5:55 PM
The first two slices' images convey their messages quite neatly without the text. There's been a trend away from showing, toward telling, in a few pieces lately that makes me recall Coco Chanel's "remove one item from your ensemble" rule.
And Helen Sinclair's: "Don't speak. No, no, no don't... don't speak."
Jessica at April 25, 2005 11:42 PM
I can see this working more like a timeline of political statements telling a larger, more complex story. It's a scary story alright, even scarier that it is true.
newt, were you in AZ during the 80's? Most people wouldn't know about The Wallace & Ladmo Show otherwise. btw, what's that object being used as your "gun" in Space Invaders?
fractal at April 26, 2005 12:36 AM
Can this be summed up as the "Vegas" corpse? Someone mentioned AZ for #4.
Good job.
(a fish stick..hee hee)
Miss Daze at April 26, 2005 6:58 AM
Fractal,
Like Princess Leia, that worm is sci-fi sourced...from Dune. The "Invaders" theme could be interpreted to go with the Native American theme, but my guess is that Newt was just commenting on the ranks upon ranks of bricks passed down from the previous slice?
